For over 53 years, Lingan Cream House has been delighting the Northern Province, particularly Jaffna, with its unparalleled taste and rich tradition. Founded in 1971 by Mr. Nagalingam Appulingam, Lingam Cool Bar started as a humble establishment with fewer than ten employees. Today, it stands as a beloved brand cherished by generations.
In 1970, Lingan Cool Bar began its journey on Clock Tower Road, offering only two classic flavors: chocolate and vanilla. Despite its modest beginnings, the business quickly became a favorite among locals due to its delicious taste and high quality products. Recognizing its growing popularity, a second branch was inaugurated in 1997 on Kasthuriyar Road, further cementing its presence in Jaffna.
Since 1981, Lingam Cool Bar has actively participated in cultural and religious festivals. Temporary shops were set up annually at Nallur Kanthaswamy Temple and Sannathy Temple during their vibrant festivals. In 2012, a permanent branch was opened in Nallur, followed by another in Sannathy in 2021. This strategic expansion allowed Lingan Cream House to stay connected with its community and traditions.
Lingan Cream House has always been a pioneer in introducing innovative products. Among its many firsts, the introduction of “BEEDA,” a refreshing and uniquely crafted treat, stood out as a local favorite. This was followed by the launch of “SHERBET,” a revitalizing drink that has since become a cherished addition to Jaffna’s culinary landscape. Later, the creation of the “MIXED FRUIT AND MAGIC CONE” became a hallmark of the brand’s ingenuity, remaining a signature product to this day. Currently, the company offers over 20 healthy and flavorful varieties of ice cream, keeping its special secret ingredients consistent across two generations.
To meet increasing demand, Lingan Cream House established a state-of-the-art factory equipped with modern machinery, ensuring consistent quality while preserving its traditional taste. This investment has enabled the brand to expand its reach and maintain its reputation as a leader in the Northern Province’s ice cream industry.
In addition to its four thriving branches in Jaffna, Lingan Cream House has also expanded internationally with a branch in Canada, bringing its signature flavors to a global audience.
The brand’s commitment to quality has earned it numerous accolades. In 2021, Lingan Cream House became the only ice cream manufacturer in the Northern Province to receive the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) certification, issued on January 29, 2021. This prestigious recognition underscores the exceptional standards upheld by Lingan Cream House.
Today, Lingan Cream House proudly employs more than 60 dedicated staff members, contributing to the local economy and supporting its community. Beyond its permanent branches, the brand continues to host temporary shops at iconic temples and festivals in Jaffna, fostering a strong cultural connection.
